The order was instituted on July 31st, 1930 by Carol II, in four classes, Commander, Officer, Knight and Golden Cross, and awarded to the civilian and military air personnel, in times of peace and in war. The decoration is a cross with a longer vertical limb, in the same design as the Order "Michael the Brave" and a horizontal limb designed as a stylized wing. The central shield has the Romanian Eagle on white enamel and the King's cipher in the middle on blue enamel. The green enamelled laurel wreath between the limbs of the cross is present only by the first two classes. On the reverse side the year of the introduction, 1930. Breast Badge, silver gilt, maker's mark "A.Lavriller" on the shield reverse, with original ribbon for awards in war. First model with cipher of Carol II. Rarely awarded (first form was issued only for merits in WW I).
