2nd Class with crown, 1st model, for navigating personnel, awarded for merits in time of peace, breast badge in silver with crown, hallmarked "10-27", maker`s mark "HW" and cipher of Carol II, with original worn ribbon. The medal was instituted in 1936, first as the Maritime Medal and was subsequently changed by royal decree in 1938 into Medal of Maritime Virtue. It was awarded in recognition of bravery and valor. The medal was organized in three classes, 1st class gilt, 2nd class in silver and the 3rd in bronze and two models, for navigating personnel, bearing a crown, and for non-navigating personnel, without crown. After 1938 it could also be awarded for merit in war, with swords under the crown in all three classes. The obverse design is a sailing boat tossed by the waves and on the base of the medal, the king`s cipher. On the reverse is an anchor over which is superposed a ribbon bearing the legend "Pentru Marina" ("For the Navy"), all surrounded by a chain.
