McKinley & Hobart: A Great 1896 Mechanical Pin Variety. Bicycling was at its height of popularity at the time of the 1896 election, and this theme is found on a variety of campaign novelties from that year. In this classic variety the candidates' portraits appear on the wheels of the bicycle which is being ridden by Ohio republican boss Mark Hanna, who detractors thought was the puppet master behind McKinley's candidacy. The top portion of Hanna's body is separate and can bounce up and down on a spring action. This item is very scarce in any condition, and particularly so in this beautiful state of preservation. The exposed paper surfaces were particularly vulnerable to wear and staining. Original pin on reverse. Dimensions: 30mm x 28mm.

Shipping: Small Flat (view shipping information)
