1872 McKenney & Hall print of ''Winnebago Warrior Wakawn'' from the ''History of the Indian Tribes of North America'' series. McKenney and Hall commissioned artist Henry Inman to reproduce these portraits based on the work of Charles Bird King, who was employed by the U.S. Government to make a survey of the appearances of natives; all but five of King's original paintings were destroyed by fire at the Smithsonian. Frontal portrait of Winnebago Warrior measures 7'' x 10.5'' and comes with original text from book. Near fine.
