Featured in this lot is this colored lithograph of Rant-Che-Wai-Me originally from McKenney & Hall and later published from E.C. Biddle but published in 1855 from J.T. Bowen Lithographic. The artwork is wonderfully and professionally crafted lithograph construction that shows Mahaskah audacious and devoted wife who accompanied him to meet with the President of the United States in 1824. A fine image from McKenney and Hall's 'Indian Tribes of North America': `One of the most important works ever published on the American Indians' field, a landmark in American culture. The portrait is wrapped in a trade blanket with a feathered fan with trade beads around her neck. The lithograph is marked as follows: Rant Che Wai Me - Female Flying Pigeon - Published by F.W. Greenough, Philad - Drawn Printed & Coloured at J.T. Bown's Lithographic Establishment No. 94 Walnut St. - Entered According to act of Congress in the Year 1836 by F.W. Greenough, in Clerks Office of the District Court of the Eastern District of Penn. The condition of this lithograph is well preserved with some browning to the paper and was previously removed from a book but otherwise shows well preserved condition. The measurements of this lithograph is 18 3/8" x 13 5/8".
