This McCoy Pottery Loy-Nel-Art vase represents the best of early McCoy pottery. Circa 1905, McCoy Pottery under James McCoy began producing the line in 1905. He named it after his three sons, Lloyd, Nelson, and Arthur. The Loy-Nel-Art line, with its glossy glazes and dark brown and black bodies, was contemporary to similar-looking pottery produced by firms such as Rookwood and Weller.<p>

This vase, in an urn shape, is 13 inches high. It has two handles and features a yellow, orange, and green currant design on a deep moss green and brown background. The mark is incised in small capital letters within two lines on the bottom: ?Loy-Nel-Art? and ?McCoy?. This mark was first incised by hand and then incised using a steel die.<p>

Although the vase itself is in overall excellent condition, it has experienced some of the glaze flaking which sometimes occurs with this line due to age. As the closeup shows, this has occurred in two small spots in one area and can easily be remedied.<p>

This will make a superb addition to an early McCoy Pottery collection!<p>

(For a bit of history: The J.W. (James) McCoy Pottery was established in 1899 in Roseville, Ohio. Other potteries extant at that time in the area included Roseville, Weller, and Burley and Winter. At first, James produced utilitarian stoneware for the home. He marked the pottery according to the line rather than the McCoy Pottery name.
