Produced between 1863 and 1865, this is a fine example of a "Model 1863" Second Model Maynard carbine. Blade front and 3-leaf rear sights, with "G.W.S" stamped on the left flat, the Mass. Arms address on the right front of the frame and four line "1851/1859" Maynard patent marking on the left side. Equipped with a saddle ring and bar, stamped "S" on the base. Smooth straight wrist stock with "GWL" and "JM" boxed cartouches and a curved buttplate.

Finish: blue/casehardened

Condition: Fine, with 60% of the original blue, showing areas of brown patina, edge wear, and mild handling marks and spotting. The frame is taking on a silver appearance, with original color in the protected areas. Stock is good, with clear cartouches, minor dings, dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
