This is a "Model 1863" Second Model carbine manufactured from 1863 to 1865. Blade front and 3-leaf rear sights, with "S" stamped on the left flat. The left side of the frame has the four line Maynard patent marking and the right side has the three line Mass. Arms address. Smooth straight grip stock with clear "GWL" and "JM" boxed cartouches and a crescent buttplate.

Gauge: 50 percussion
Finish: blue/casehardened

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 95% original blue finish with some minor thinning with some scattered minor spotting. The buttplate has a smooth crisp dark brown patina. The frame, hammer and lever retain 60% original case colors with the balance a smooth brown patina. Saddle bar and front attachment screw are both absent. The stock is also very fine with some minor dings and scratches. The cartouches are clear and crisp.
