Maynard Patent Single Shot rifle, Model 1873 with 26” round barrel of .64 caliber or 20 gauge smoothbore (“No. 3 Sportsman’s Favorite”) and an extra 30” round barrel, .44 caliber rifled, (which seems to indicate itas a barrel for an Improved Hunter’s Rifle No. 11), wood butt stock. There is a bead front sight on the 20 gauge barrel and an elevating tang peep sight on the receiver with a two stage open rear sight and Beachtype front sight on the rifled extra barrel (serial #13669). The rifle is in overall good to very good condition showing a brown patina on the barrel with strong traces of case color on the receiver and hammer, theaction is good and the butt stock is very good with a couple of old storage mars; the bore is rough; the markings are clear including the 1873 on the left side of the receiver and 1865 in front of the serialnumber located on the lower tang. The second barrel is in overall very good condition showing a plum brown patina with traces of original blue that may show up better with a careful cleaning and oiling of both the gun
