The right side of the receiver is marked: " MANUFACTURED BY / MASS. ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS / 1882." The opposite side is marked: "EDWARD MAYNARD / PATENTEE / MAY 27, 1851 / DEC. 6, 1859" followed by "1873". The lower tang is marked with the serial number. The rifle has a heavy round barrel with forearm and a slotted front sight base in the dove tail, the rear sight has been removed and there is a much later production replacement short range tang mounted peep sight retaining stud. Mounted with a checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with a checkered nickel plated Swiss style buttplate.

Condition: Very good. The barrel shows streaks of thin original blue finish mixed with a smooth brown patina. 25% dull original case colors remain on the receiver with a smooth mottled brown patina on the balance. The lever and hammer have a smooth mottled brownish patina. The buttplate retains 95% of the frosted original nickel finish with wear on the end of the prongs. The wood is good with numerous minor scratches on the stock, there is a chip on the bottom of the pistol grip.. There are a few minor dings on the forearm and some moderate wear to the otherwise crisp checkering. The markings are clear. Mechanically fine.
