May 5, 1783-Dated Revolutionary War Era, Autograph Document Signed, “J. P.” initials only, on verso, 1 page, 7.25” x 3”, Granville County, North Carolina, Choice Very Fine. Lightly toned at folds, else fine condition. This Document reads, in full:

“State of No. Carolina, -- To the Sherif of Granville County Greeting. -- We Command you to take the body of William Dodson later of your said County planter - if to be found in your bailiwick & him safely keep so that you have him before the Justices of our County Court of Granville at the Courthouse on the first monday in Aug. next to Answer Charles Dodson of a plea of trespass on the case Damage Twenty pounds Specie and have you there then this writ Witness Asa Searey Clerk of our said Court the 5th day of May A.D. 1783. -- (Signed) Asa Searey C.C.”

On the blank verso, John Penn has docketed his document “Dodson vs Dodson / Writ. To Aug Term 1783 / J.P.” Also signed on verso, “Thornton Yancey,” Sheriff of Granville County.
