May 20, 1773. Issue of Pennsylvania Gazette, Philadelphia, 4 pp., announcing election of Samuel Adams, John Hancock, William Phillips, and Thomas Cushing as the representatives for Boston. The article calls to their attention "privileges and powers of this colony respecting legislation and taxation." (The tax on tea had just been passed in England.) "Enemies to our free constitution... mercenary troops inflicted on people jealous of their liberties...We cannot...but resent these standing troops within our capital cities as the appointed executioners of liberty...." Important statement of the colony's opposition to the "status quo." Other articles on the graduation of King's College (held at Trinity Church), and a surgical operation. Toned, separating at center fold.
