The painting relates to Ava's performance as Maxine Faulk in Tennessee Williams' <I>Night of the Iguana</B></I> (1964), which co-starred Richard Burton, Deborah Kerr and Sue Lyon, and for which Ava won the San Sebastian International Film Festival Best Actress Award.
