German physicist (1879–1960) who won the 1914 Nobel Prize in Physics for his research related to the diffraction of X-rays by crystals. TLS in German, signed “M. Laue,” on both sides of a 6 x 4 postcard, November 15, 1931. Letter to physicist Rudolf Ladenburg, who taught at Princeton since 1931 in matters of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute. In part (translated): “Nernst made an attempt for the KWI M. making of Physics mobile, and although he came with the old, long since rejected the proposal, initially only part of the allotted sum block and use the rest for the operation to three years. M. did not say much to it. The question of who is the successor of N is raised only after the winter semester. You see from this that you miss nothing here. Because the faculty has set up the list and entering the ministry in the negotiations, you are back here …” In very good condition, with scattered light creasing and postal wear, a couple light stamps, a uniform shade of toning, and several small pinholes and pencil notations to signature side.
