Max Fleischer Studios - Superman Pencil Animation Drawing Original Art (Paramount, 1941-1943). Originally created in 1933, it took Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster five years to find a home for their Kryptonian orphan. But once they did, the results were dynamite! Superman took the comic world by storm in 1938, and quickly moved onto the newspaper comic strip page, where he was equally successful. Several years later, he made his silver screen debut in a series of cartoons produced by the Max Fleischer Studios, and his fame was assured. These seventeen shorts, shown to audiences between 1941 and 1943, along with his radio appearances, made Superman so well known that he was soon recognized by all of North America, and that fame would snowball to create lasting success and international stardom. Even today, these cartoons are considered to be some of the very finest animation work ever produced by an American studio. Production material from these cartoons is exceptionally scarce, and the pieces that do surface are rarely offered for sale. This 13" x 16" key frame animation sketch, in Excellent condition, is an iconic image of the Man of Tomorrow taking aim at some upcoming danger, hanging in mid-thrust, with an eye towards the sky. For any fan of Metropolis' #1 hero, this is a must-have piece of super-history! From the collection of Richard and Wendy Pini. Richard says: "Along with the pencil production drawing from "The Bulleteers" I was very fortunate to find this animation drawing of Superman, from the Fleischer Studio. There was always something scrappy and vaguely naughty about the Fleischer's work as compared to the Disney studio; that's probably why I liked their cartoons much more than Disney's."
