Max Fleischer Studios - "Gulliver's Travels" Hand-Painted Production Cel Original Art (Max Fleischer Studios, 1939). In 1939, Max and Dave Fleischer, creators of the classic jazzy Betty Boop and Popeye cartoons, turned their animation skills to a feature film adaptation of Jonathan Swift's classic novel, "Gulliver's Travels." Based on Swift's allegorical tale about the fantastic adventures of a sailor in a succession of weird and bizarre lands, "Gulliver's Travels" is a milestone in the art of animation. It is the second animated motion picture of its magnitude ever produced, after "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." This film relied heavily on the delicate use of the rotoscoping, a process by which animation cells are created by tracing them from filmed footage or photographs, creating a fluid, life-like animation. Gulliver is presented on this 9" x 12" celluloid, pulling on one of his barn-sized boots, in a beautiful image which is in Excellent condition. Live large and bid on this unforgettable piece of animation history! From the collection of Richard and Wendy Pini.
