German composer (1838-1920) who wrote over 200 works, one of which is a staple of the violin repertoire. Serious-looking 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait by J. Burgoyne of Birmingham, England, signed and inscribed ink over the photographer’s information on the reverse, he adds “L’pool, 17 Mai ’82.” Light scratching to the very clear image, otherwise fine condition.
