Mauser  S/42  Code 1937 Dated K98 Bolt Action Rifle with Bayonet
This is a 1937 military production Mauser 98K rifle, the top of the receiver is marked "S/42" which is the wartime code for the Mauser factory at Oberndorf and "1937" which signifies the year of manufacture. The right side of the receiver has three "eagle/63" proofmarks, the left side has the eagle firing proof and serial number, and the left side wall is marked "Mod.98". The left rear of the barrel has the firing proof and matching serial number and the right side directly behind the hand guard is marked with two "Eagle/WaA63" proofs. It has the early all milled components, blade front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters, and is mounted with a one piece pistol grip stock with matching handguard, flat buttplate and the spurious skull and cross bones Death Head stamping in the grip. Complete with a brown leather cross hatch sling, slotted cleaning rod and F.W. Holler bayonet with a serrated Bakelite handle, un-numbered metal scabbard and leather frog.

Condition: Very good as assembled. The rifle retains 40% partially refinished blue finish with thinning on the receiver and smooth brown patina on the forward portion of the barrel. There is a small area of very minor pitting on the floor plate and some minor spotting on the left rear of the barrel. The floor plate, trigger guard and both barrel bands are renumbered, refinished replacements. The stock is also very good with overall scattered minor dents and dings. The sling is good. The scabbard retains 25% original blue finish (mostly under the frog) with the balance having a brownish gray patina with some minor pitting. The frog and bayonet are very good. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
