Manufacturer: Mauser Model: Single Shot Rifle
This is an excellent example of a Mauser Oberndorf Serviceman's single shot target rifle. These single shot rifles were originally based on reworked WWI GEW rifles converted by various German gun maker guilds and smaller factories and then later produced using newly manufactured receivers by various companies such as Haenel and the Mauser rifle factory. (This rifle is the latter!) These rifles were termed "Wehrsportgewehr" or a" Serviceman's Rifle" and were produced from the early to mid 1930's and were intended to be the standard rifle for match shooting as used for both National and Military rifle tournaments throughout German and Austria. These rifles were all intended to be shot at 300 meters or less so they were all chambered in the low velocity 8.15 mm X 46r caliber that fired a lead bullet. This rifle was manufactured as a single shot and has the solid bottom receiver with no cutout in the receiver side wall for stripper clip loading. The top of the receiver is marked with a large Mauser Banner logo and the receiver side wall is marked "MAUSER-WERKE A.G. OBERNDORF A/N". The left side of the receiver is stamped with "Crown/B", "U", "N" and "G" proofs and the barrel is marked with the serial number and "8,15X46". All barrel and receiver markings are highlighted in white. The rifle has a full length military style stock with finger grooves and walnut handguard. It has been refitted with a late target type sight.
