Mauser K98 Rework Bolt Action Rifle
This is an example of a commercial proofed 98K built and test fired in June, 1944 for the Volksturm, made by the order of the Gavleiter. No receiver ring markings except for a commercial "eagle/N" proof on the left side and the left side receiver wall marked "Mod. 98". The left side rear of the barrel is marked "35 8X57 JS eagle/N shield with crossed sabers inside 544 (restamped)". There are two "eagle/77" proofs on the floor plate hardware and "35" electro penciled into the left side of the front barrel band. There are no other visible markings on the gun or stock. The consignors notes state that this 98K rework was used by the SS Pioneer Battalion. (More research is needed as we do not have any information). Hooded front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 200 meters, all milled parts and mounted with a laminated pistol grip stock and handguard with cupped buttplate. The stock has not been drilled for a cleaning rod. Complete with a cross hatch leather sling.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: laminated
Gauge: 8 mm
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 35
Condition: Arsenal refurbished with nearly 99% of the blue finish remaining on the barrel, bands, trigger guard and floor plate assembly. The receiver has mostly a copper tint with some minor pitting. With the exception of a moderate chip to the rear of the sling slot and takedown disk, there are a few minor dents and handling marks. The sling is good. Mechanically excellent.
