Maurice de Tallyrand Letter Signed "le p.d. tallyrand". One page, 6" x 8", Paris, July 7, 1833. Despite noble birth, Maurice de Tallyrand (1754-1838) supported the French Revolution and rose to the highest positions of power and influence under Napoleon Bonaparte. Here the former statesman writes to an old friend in part: "I am very touched that while your time is so well spent in your retirement, you can remember an old man like me. I would have been pleased to see you in Paris but I stopped there for a very short time only, and even, despite what the newspapers are saying, only for family reasons...". Smoothed folds and creases, light aging, else fine condition.
