In this color lithograph from 1971, the French artist creates through the balanced composition of abstract shapes and colors in blue, yellow and black a peaceful, harmonious impression. This is a typical work of the later years, in which the artist has already achieved the complete abstraction.

The lithograph in colors is signed lower right in pencil ‘Estève’ and numbered lower left in pencil ‘69/80’. The sheet is overall somewhat toned, along the edges of the mat window slightly stronger. On verso there are small remains of old mounting. The frame indicates slight signs of wear. The image measures 32.6 x 25.2 cm, the sheet 65 x 48 cm. The framed dimensions are 67.5 x 51 cm.

Maurice Estève (1904-2001)

Maurice Esteve moved with his parents to Paris in 1913, where he became interested in art. He taught himself as a painter from 1923 and worked as a designer in a fabric factory. From 1928 his work evolving increasingly away from reality and towards a lyrical and poetic abstraction. Estèves first exhibition took place in 1930 in the gallery Yvangot in Paris, many more followed. Also in collections and museums his works are represented. (fea)
