Soldier and politician (1836–1909) who served as a major general in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, a three-term US senator, and a major general in the US Army during the Spanish-American War. Original crystal-clear 7 x 11 photo of Butler sitting on a porch chair, dressed in full uniform, with a short leather whip in his lap. Photo is affixed to an 11 x 15.25 mount. Several creases and small separations to mount, as well as some toning and a pencil notation to top right, otherwise fine condition. All of the mount’s flaws could be easily matted out.
