A) Manufacturer: Colt Model: Single Action Army
Manufactured in 1961. This matched pair of consecutively serial numbered revolvers are reported to have been owned by Mafia member Dominick (Dom) Derosa according to a typed accompanying letter. According to the letter Derosa grew up in the Midwest with a typical Italian background and worked in and around Indiana, Illinois and the Eastern Wisconsin area. As a young man he became friends with Jimmy Fratianni (correctly spelled Fratianno) who gained fame as Jimmy the "Rat" or Jimmy the "Squealer" (he was actually known as "Jimmy the Weasel") and grew in prominence in the Mafia involved in rackets, labor unions and trucking. He reportedly ordered this pair of revolvers in anticipation of a gala masquerade party. The revolvers were ordered with the Sterling silver grips made by Bohlin of Hollywood, California. Derosa was found in the desert (specific desert not named) one morning with two bullet holes in his head. More research is needed to substantiate this story. The revolvers are marked with the one line address on top of the barrel, "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY 357 MAGNUM" on the left and the left side of the frame is marked with the two line, three patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame and the left side of the grip straps under the grip. The matching assembly number on the back of the frame and on the loading gate. All nickel finish, standard blade front and frame notch rear sights and fitted with solid 10k Sterling silver grips with floral scroll engraving with zigzag border and accents on one panel (right on this revolver, left on "B"), and the same engraving pattern on the opposite grip as well as a 18k gold relief long horn steer head and the letter "D" at the top. The grips were designed so that when holstered the steer head and "D" would be upright facing out. The inside of the grips is stamped "BOHLIN MADE/CALIF./HOLLYWOOD" and "10K". The accompanying factory letter verifies the revolvers as being shipped as a pair, 357 magnum, 5 1/2 inch barrel, nickel plated with grips as "Not Listed", consecutive serial numbers, and that they were shipped to Rasmussens Western Wear in Riverside, California on November 17, 1961. There is also a "Colt Archive Specification sheet" that lists "Nickel Edward Bohlin Silver/Gold grips" under special features.
