Featured in this lot is this Mata Ortiz polychrome rabbit pottery vessel by Jesus Olivos Quintona. The pottery vessel features a wonderfully and professionally crafted ceramic construction that features a polychrome decoration of fish, turtles, and rabbits tooled into the vessel with intertwined geometric patterns throughout the pottery vessel. Mata Ortiz pottery is a recreation of the Mogollon pottery found in and around the archeological site of Casas Grandes (Paquimé) in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Named after the modern town of Mata Ortiz, which is near the archeological site, the style was propagated by Juan Quezada Celado. Quezada learned on his own to recreate this ancient pottery and then went on to update it. The condition of this pottery vessel is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this pottery vessel 8 1/2" x 6" x 6".
