This example was manufactured in 1915 and it has a generous amount of later applied, well executed custom floral scroll engraving on the slide and frame. There are gold inlaid borders on the slide and frame. The top of the slide is hand matted and has a gold wire inlaid oval surrounding a gold inlaid bear in a mountain scene. There are decorative gold wire inlaid designs on the bottom front of the slide, dust cover, trigger guard, front strap and mainspring housing. The thumb safety has crude polish marks under the blue. The left side of the slide is marked with the two block, two line patent dates and address and the right side is marked with the caliber. The right side of the frame is marked "GOVERNMENT MODEL/C 17501" and appears to be signed "J.J" above the trigger guard shoulder. The barrel, right side of the slide and right side of the frame have British proofmarks. Fitted with a pair of checkered ivory grips with gold Colt medallions.
