Massachusetts December 7, 1775 14s Extremely Fine. This is only the second Fourteen Shilling example
Massachusetts December 7, 1775 14s Extremely Fine. This is only the second Fourteen Shilling example of this issue that we have handled. The first was a Very Fine that we sold in September of 1996 for over $2000. We've sold only eight examples of this issue all together, two of which have been counterfeit 36s examples (this 14s denomination was never counterfeited.) The note is beautifully margined all around on both sides, and every word of the text is clean, clear and sharp, as is the face vignette, a sailing ship in port. The Colonial soldier with raised sword on the back is clean, clear and sharp, and it is beautifully centered on the paper. The note is totally free of problems or restorations of any kind. High-grade examples of this important Colonial issue are rarely seen, and this one is one of the very nicest we have had the pleasure of handling. The patriotic vignettes, along with the note's association with Paul Revere (he engraved the plates and printed these notes), make this one of the most sought-after designs in the entire Colonial Currency field. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
