<B>Massachusetts Congressman Anson Burlingame Autograph Letter Signed</B></I> “<I>A. Burlingame</B></I>”. Four pages, 5.5” x 8.25”, Boston, June 24, 1857, marked private to Benjamin Perley Poore. In this letter Congressman Burlingame flatters newspaper correspondent Benjamin Perley Poore to join the new Republican Party. He writes in part: “<I>Mr. Banks…considers you, as I do, one of the best Specimens of the “Young America” which believes in deeds more than words</B></I>”. Burlingame goes on to assure Poore that the Republicans can win Massachusetts “<I>as long as we behave ourselves and continue to represent the sentiments of a vast majority of the living people of the Commonwealth.</B></I>” With some old tape repairs, some toning to the paper, and the usual fold creases, else very good. <I>Ex.
