Mason Red Head Repaint Mallard Drake Decoy
Featured in this lot we have a Mason red head repaint mallard drake wooden decoy. The Mason Decoy Factory was founded by William James Mason in 1896 and operated until 1924. Mason Offered three grades of decoys: Premier Grade, Challenge Grade, and Standard Grade. Standard Grade decoys were made after 1905 and were the company's least expensive and most popular, being sold by catalog companies such as Sears and Roebuck. Standard Grades were available in three varieties: Glasseye, Tackeye, and Painted Eye. Standard decoys were solid with lathe-turned bodies and round bottoms. This decoy was originally painted as a red head blue bill duck drake but has been repainted to look more like a Mallard Drake. The bottom of the piece shows a fresh coat of paint with a metal eyelet set in a hole. The piece shows very good condition overall with little to no wear on the paint. It measures 16" long by 5 1/2" wide and 6 1/2" tall.
