Japanese fighter pilot during World War II best known for his claim of having shot down Black Sheep leader Gregory ‘Pappy’ Boyington. Satin-finish 5 x 4 photo of Kawato in his later years wearing the uniform of his youth and standing in front of a Japanese Zero, signed in gold ink, “Mike Kawato” adding Japanese characters beneath his name. In fine condition, with tiny upper right corner crease. Accompanied by a biographical page he sent out with autograph requests plus an unsigned photo.
