Very rare document dated 1793 being the text of a bill pending in the Maryland Assembly for ''An ACT to arrange, regulate and discipline, the militia of this state…to provide for the national defense…'' This was likely the first act regulating the militia in Maryland under the new federal constitution. The docket on the final page indicates however that this version did not pass the state senate: ''Negatived by the Senate - Nov 1793'' Toned along horizontal folds and margins a bit wrought, otherwise very good condition.
