Maryland Continental Loan Office Bill of Exchange May 11, 1781 Choice About New. Listed as US 95 in Anderson, it's an uncut pair consisting of a Third and Fourth of Exchange made out for $18. Both notes from this vertical pair are signed by Francis Hopkinson (a signer of the Declaration of independence) as Treasurer of Loans, and by Thomas Harwood for the state of Maryland. Maryland is the second most difficult colony from which to obtain these certificates. They're rated as a high R7, which William G. Anderson considers to be four to six known, in his excellent book, The Price of Liberty. Only Virginia, with one to three known, is considered rarer. This unsevered pair is in essentially as-issued condition, but for a slight bend between the notes and a minor corner fold. This lovely and valuable pair should create considerable bidder interest.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
