Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks Autographed Album P
Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks Autographed Album Page and Picture. They were the King and Queen of Hollywood, onscreen and off, in the late 1920s. Mary Pickford (1892-1979) and real-life husband Douglas Fairbanks (1883-1939) ruled the early cinema colony from their "Pickfair" estate high in Beverly Hills. They were founders of United Artists Studio and the Motion Picture Academy. They were the first stars to place their hand and foot prints in the Grauman's Chinese Theatre forecourt. Fairbanks was the host of the first Academy presentation...Pickford won the Academy Award for Coquette (1929)...indeed, their claims to cinematic fame are literally too numerous to mention here. This lot celebrates these early superstars and includes a 4.5" x 5.5" light green album page, signed by both PIckford (in blue ink) and Fairbanks (in black ink); each has also added the year 1928. The page is uninscribed and the almost-89-years-old signatures amazingly clean, with only a minor horizontal fold through the "Sincerely" that prefaces Pickford's signature and a tiny tear (no paper missing) at the bottom left. Added to the lot is an 8" x 10" picture (taken from a book) of Fairbanks and Pickford, both in full-bloom, co-starring in The Taming of the Shrew (1929). The powerhouse couple separated in 1933 and divorced in 1936, breaking the hearts of many movie fans, but their legacy as Hollywood pioneers (Pickford received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy in 1976) is lasting and undiminished. This is true vintage movie history, in Excellent condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
