Glossy 8 x 10 photo of the silent film actress and Phantom of the Opera star, signed and inscribed in silver ink to “To Mr. Dwight Frye, Best Wishes, Sincerely, Mary Philbin.” In fine condition, with some vertical streaking and a ding to the top border. The elder Frye appeared in films such as Dracula (1931), Frankenstein (1931), The Invisible Man (1933), and Bride of Frankenstein (1935) before dying of a heart attack when his son was 14. This photo offers an interesting link between two early horror film stars.
