For your consideration is an original Mary Michael “At the Yellowstone” bronze sculpture. Mary was born in Great Falls, MT. where she grew up in a traditional ranching and western lifestyle. After raising her family, she turned to art full time, taking classes from artists she admired. For more than a decade now, Mary has been producing bronze sculptures of increasing artistry and form. She has done not one but two monuments of Sacajawea for the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial in the state. The softness and realism of her portrayal has been remarked on and resulted in several commissioned portraits. The original of this bronze resides in Sacajawea park in Livingston, MT where it sits at over 9 feet tall. Following the construction of the bronze in the park Michael made 100 scale statues of the original. This bronze is numbered 77/100. After the 100th bronze was cast the molds were destroyed to ensure the authenticity of the statues. The statue depicts the Shoshone guide Sacajawea and toddler Pomp on horse back. The bronze is mounted on an oak base and has a plaque reading “At the Yellowstone” Sacajawea and Pomp July 15, 1806. – by Mary Michael. The bronze measures 14" x 7" x 16".
