American writer and political activist (1912–1989). McCarthy is most widely known for her novels The Company She Keeps and The Group. Ink signature and inscription, “To Professor Hans G. Gilde, with my appreciation and thanks for his long standing interest in my work and for his furtherance of it with his students, Mary McCarthy,” on a white 8.25 x 4 card. In fine condition, with some trivial brushing to the sentiment and a few stray marks.
