Mary FitzGerald’s work is heavily influenced by Japanese aesthetics and
philosophy. She studied at NCAD and later in Osaka, Japan, and has been included
in many major group exhibitions including the Living Art exhibitions, ROSC
(1988), ‘Re-Dressing Cathleen’ (Boston, 1997) and numerous Sao Paolo Bienals.
Awards include the GPA Award (1983), EV + A Limerick Patron’s Award (1986) and
the Claremorris Open Art Award (1988). In 1990 she was elected a member of
Aosdána and since 1989 has worked on the editorial board of Circa magazine. Her
work is included in a number of major public collections including the Arts
Council of Ireland and Northern Ireland, IMMA, OPW, Crawford Gallery, AIB, Bank
of Ireland and many others.
