Actress (born in 1912) who was discovered by Carl Laemmle, Jr., while eating lunch at the Universal Pictures commissary. She retired from films in 1942 and later began a second career as the manager of the Elizabeth Arden Salon in Beverly Hills. Vintage pearl-finish 8 x 10 double weight MGM publicity photo, credited to Ted Allen, signed and inscribed in-person in fountain pen “To Saul, Mary Carlisle, Aug. 3, 1936.” Reverse of photo bears collector’s stamp date of August 3, 1936, the date the signature was acquired. In fine condition, with a few scattered light creases.
