(Walt Disney Studios, 1949) Original Mary Blair concept storyboard painting featuring Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman from the Legend of Sleepy Hollow featured in the film The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. Accomplished in tempera and watercolor on a 16.75 x 6.5 illustration board. Scene depicts Ichabod Crane fleeing through the forest on his horse being pursued by the Headless Horseman. In fine condition, with a single tack hole to each corner and a bit of trivial edge wear. Blair was a concept artist for Disney during the 1940s and early 1950s, working on designs for such films as Peter Pan, Cinderella, and Alice in Wonderland. She also created designs for several Disney attractions (including It’s a Small World), and her largest work ever, the multi-story mosaic in Disney World’s Contemporary Hotel concourse. An impressive image done in Blair’s unique style which was pivotal in capturing the dark conclusion to this Disney classic.
