Mary Astor signed divorce papers from her fourth husband, stockbroker Thomas Gordon Wheelock. Typed sheets are signed on the 4th page, ''Mary Astor'' in blue ink. Document cites ''Extreme cruelty, non-support'' as the grounds for divorce, reading in part, ''...the defendant [Mr. Wheelock] herein has been guilty of extreme cruelty toward plaintiff [Mary Astor], and has inflicted upon plaintiff grievous physical and mental pain and suffering; that said acts of cruelty herein complained of on the part of defendant have been committed without any fault or provocation on the part of plaintiff, and have caused plaintiff great and grievous mental and physical pain and suffering; and have rendered the continuance of the marital relationship between plaintiff and defendant impossible...defendant...failed to provide for the plaintiff the common necessaries of life because of his idleness, profligacy and dissipation...'' Runs 6pp. Thin sheets are each stamped ''Copy'', but the signature is original. Accompanied by two typed letters from Astor's attorney and a handwritten letter addressed to the attorney from an unknown sender, not Astor. Divorce document measures 8.5'' x 13''. Creasing, else near fine. From the Mary Astor estate.
