Popular soul and R&B singer-songwriter (1939–1984) who was one of Motown’s most successful artists during that label’s heyday in the 1960s and 1970s, recording such hits as “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)” and “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.” A day before his 45th birthday, Gaye was shot and killed by his father during an argument over a business matter. Photocopied DS, signed in black felt tip, “Marvin P. Gaye, Jr.,” one page, 8.5 x 11, October 18, 1977. Agreement between Gaye and W. G. Enterprises for Gaye to perform at the Centroplex Coliseum in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Friday, November 11, 1977, for a price of $25,000. Gaye will receive a $7000 advance, with the balance due several days later. Boldly signed near the bottom in black felt tip by Gaye. In fine condition, with small pencil notations to top, as well as a couple of staple holes. Interesting concert-related document.
