Marvin Blackmore grew up in a hub of Native American arts and crafts - Cortez, Colorado. There, Blackmore was exposed to the many tribal styles of pottery making. Originally drawn to the pueblo-style carved pottery known in the Southwest as ?Black-on-Black? over time he developed his own technique that incorporated the traditional Black-on-Black style with layers of colored clay slip. Today, Blackmore?s pottery is famous for the intricate hand-etchings carved into the multicolored clay.
