Marvel Mystery Comics #2 (1939) CGC VF/NM 9.0 White pgs
Marvel Mystery Comics #2 (Timely, 1939) CGC VF/NM 9.0 White pages. This rare issue was ranked among the "most difficult to find Timely keys" by Comic Book Marketplace, and finding a copy in this condition and with this page quality is remarkable! This was the first issue of Timely's flagship title to bear the name Marvel Mystery Comics, as #1 was simply called Marvel Comics. Featured are the Human Torch by Carl Burgos (including a retelling of the hero's origin), and the Sub-Mariner by Bill Everett. From today's perspective it may seem a bit surprising that cover billing went to the Angel, but in fact that hero starred on most of the early covers, reportedly because Timely publisher Martin Goodman had identified him as the breakout character. The cover art has been credited to Claire Moe. It's no surprise that this issue is ranked among the 30 most valuable comic books by Overstreet. CGC notes, "Very minor amount of glue on cover." Overstreet 2005 VF/NM 9.0 value = $33,000; NM- 9.2 value = $47,000. CGC census 10/06: 2 in 9.0, none higher.

Shipping: Slabbed Comic (view shipping information)
