<B>Tieleman Jansz van Braght: <I>The Martyr's Mirror</B></I></B></I> or <I>Der blutige Schau-Platz oder Märtyrer-Spiegel der Tauffs....</B></I> This first German edition of the important Mennonite work was translated and published at the Ephrata Cloister in Pennsyvania in 1748-49. This edition consisted of 1300 copies, each of 1512 pages, and was one of the most important examples of American Colonial printing. Folio, contemporary leather with metal fittings. Spine gone, some browning & staining. Front board is detached, large loss of leather, clasps are damaged. 4 metal mounts, some damaged, foxing throughout. Pages 177 through 184 are bound upside down.
