Scalloped-top partly-printed DS as president, signed “M. Van Buren,” one page, 11 x 15, June 19, 1841. Ship’s pass issued to “the Barque Newton John B. Sawyer master and commander…mounted with no guns…to pass with her Company Passengers, Goods, and Merchandise without any hindrance, seizure or molestation.” Signed at the bottom by Van Buren, and countersigned by Secretary of State John Forsyth. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, scattered creasing and wrinkling, and some mild toning, and end portion of Van Buren’s signature light due to decreased ink flow.
