ALS signed “M. Van Buren,” one page both sides, 7.75 x 9.75, October 21, 1829. Letter of introduction to Major Barry. In full: “Mr. Ford who will hand you this is the son in law of our friend Genl. Duncan of Philadelphia. He was well recommended to me for a clerkship but I had no place for him. He has performed occasional services at the Department of State and is a competent clerk.” Intersecting folds through signature, repaired on the reverse with old tape, another old tape repair to lower horizontal fold, partial separations along vertical folds, and scattered toning, otherwise very good condition.
