Partial self-contained DS, signed as president, “M. Van Buren,” one page on vellum, 10.5 x 6, no date [1837–1841]. The bottom portion of an unaccomplished passport, countersigned by Secretary of State John Forsyth. Archivally shadow box framed with a gold-inlaid, sterling silver portrait plate issued in a limited edition by the Franklin Mint in the early-to-mid 1970s to an overall size of 20 x 26. In very good condition, with seal stain and small edge tear to blank portion and a few light spots and wrinkles. Despite these points, whose visual impact is minimal, the signature itself is unaffected, and easily rates fine. Oversized.
