An appointment of Benjamin H. Arthur "<I>Second Lieutenant in the First Regiment of Infantry</B></I>". Signed at the conclusion of the text by Van Buren as president and Joel R. Poinsett as secretary of war with docketing at the upper left. Fine condition with the white paper wafer seal intact and not affected by the original folds.
