Martin Luther King, Jr. Signed 1963 Program
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Martin Luther King, Jr. signed and inscribed program for a Southern Christian Leadership fundraiser which took place on 18 October 1963 at the University of Notre Dame's Stepan Center. Inscription in blue ink on the cover reads: ''To Mrs. Virginia Spann With Best Wishes / Martin Luther King''. During the rally, King spoke of the problems of segregation, discrimination, and the momentousness of the civil rights movement, which he saw as representative of the world as a whole: ''The world has shrunk into a neighborhood -- now we must make it a brotherhood or we will die together as fools.'' 8.5'' x 11'' program runs 14 pages, listing the evening's speakers and various donors. Front cover has a chip to lower right corner and a vertical crease from folding. Good condition overall with a pristine signature.
