Martin Liebscher is well-known for his large-scale panoramic pictures created with digital montages

The present work belongs to the series ‘Chicago Car Park’, in which Martin Liebscher presents a digitally processed documentation of a parking space. At first glance, the depicted cars appear like an abstract composition of dynamic lines and colors which may then be slowly interpreted in depth.



The C-print is laminated on Alu-Dibond and sealed with UV foil. It is verso numbered, signed and dated ‘10/10+II Liebscher 2001‘. The surface of the work shows a number of faint scratches. The corners show minor blemishes. The image size is equal to the overall dimensions of 18 x 118.5 cm.



Martin Liebscher (b. 1964)

Martin Liebscher studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main in the classes of Martin Kippenberger and Thomas Bayrle, whose master student he became in 1996. In 1993, he continued to study at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. In 1995, Liebscher obtained a world record for the longest group photo of the world. He was later also awarded the German Photo Book Prize in 2010. Since 2007, he is a professor of photography at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach. In 2009, he founded the exhibition space ‘HfG Offenbach: Berlin’, where students of the HfG Offenbach are invited to stay for a month and exhibit their works. Liebscher uses digital image processing to integrate portraits of himself in different poses into certain settings. The artist has taken part in a number of solo and group exhibitions. (cbo)
